A Rock Hall based charity dedicated to finding homes for abandoned pet rabbits, Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center, Inc. (ESRREC), will hold a fundraising event, Just Desserts, on Saturday November 12 from 6-9pm at Emmanuel Church Parish Hall in Chestertown, MD.

Featuring desserts donated from restaurants and vineyards primarily in Rock Hall and Chestertown, Just Desserts will provide a smorgasbord of high quality sweets for the attendees. The price of admission is $20 in advance ($25 on the day of the event), $10 for children aged 12 and under. Each ticket will also be entered in a raffle for a $100 gift certificate donated by Concord Pet Foods & Supplies. Extra raffle chances will be sold for $3 each or in exchange for a rabbit toy for the bunnies at the ESRREC shelter, located on Main Street in Rock Hall.

The family-friendly event includes live music from acoustic duo Buntopia, as well as a silent auction with bunny-themed items and eastern shore treasures. ESRREC will also be selling its 2017 calendar, with professional photos of rabbits from the shelter.

“More than just a fundraiser, Just Desserts is a year-end celebration and a milestone for ESRREC’s volunteers and supporters,” said ESRREC President Cora Dickson. This is the second year for the event, which raised over $1,300 in 2015.

Contributing restaurants include: from Chestertown, Fish Whistle, Luisa’s Cucina Italiana, and The Kitchen at Hotel Imperial; from Rock Hall, Bay Wolf, Four Sirens, Get the Scoop, Java Rock, New Yarmouth, Osprey Point, and Sweet Cheeks; from Galena, The Country Kitchen; from Centreville, Happy Chicken Bakery; and from Kent Island, Peace of Cake Bakery. Contributing local vineyards include CassinelliClovelly, and Crow. Businesses contributing to the silent auction include Chester River Wine & Cheese Company, Haven Point Inn, and Blue Crab Chesapeake Charters.

Tickets for Just Desserts are being sold at the ESRREC store Usagi’s Place and online at https://www.esrrec.org/justdesserts.

In the year and a half since the shelter started operations, ESRREC (which has 501(c)(3) status) has taken in 47 abandoned pet rabbits, out of which 30 have been adopted. ESRREC has also arranged for 36 spay/neuter operations before adoption. Approximately one-third of the rabbits were transferred from the region’s animal shelters, while others were strays or surrendered directly by the owners.
