A new organization dedicated to finding homes for abandoned pet rabbits, Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center, Inc. (ESRREC), will hold a fundraising event, Just Desserts, on November 14 from 6-9pm at Emmanuel Church Parish Hall in Chestertown, MD.
With desserts being donated primarily from restaurants in Rock Hall and Chestertown (see list), Just Desserts will provide a smorgasbord of sweets for the attendees. The price of admission is $20 in advance ($25 on the day of the event), $10 for children aged 12 and under. Each ticket will also be entered in a raffle for a $100 gift certificate for Kingstown Farm, Home and Garden. Extra raffle chances will be sold for $3 each or in exchange for a rabbit toy for the bunnies at the ESRREC shelter, located on Main Street in Rock Hall.
The event, which is sponsored by People’s Bank, includes live music from acoustic duo Buntopia, a silent auction, and children’s activities.
“More than just a fundraiser, Just Desserts is a year-end celebration that we anticipate will become a flagship event for ESRREC’s volunteers and supporters,” said ESRREC President Cora Dickson.
ESRREC, the only rabbit rescue on the eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, obtained 501(c)(3) status in March. In the six months since the shelter started operations, ESRREC has taken in 21 abandoned pet rabbits (including 2 newborns), out of which 13 have been spayed/neutered and 5 have been adopted. Approximately half of the rabbits were transferred from the region’s humane societies, while others were strays or surrendered directly by the owners.
Tickets for Just Desserts are being sold at the ESRREC store Usagi’s Place and online at https://www.esrrec.org/justdesserts.
