Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center, Inc. (ESRREC), a local organization dedicated to finding new homes for abandoned pet rabbits, will be accepting donations and conducting community outreach at the Rock Hall Branch of The Peoples Bank on Friday, March 25 from 9am – noon.
The joint effort by ESRREC and The Peoples Bank is targeting “wish list” items for the shelter (cleaning supplies and fresh vegetables) but cash donations are also welcomed. The branch has also set up a donation table in its lobby until March 25 for early contributions.
ESRREC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Rock Hall, is the only rabbit rescue on the eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Since the shelter started operations in April, ESRREC has taken in 34 abandoned pet rabbits (including 2 newborns), out of which 12 have been adopted. The rabbits are transferred from the region’s humane societies, picked up as strays, or surrendered directly by the owners.
Including both its Main Street shelter and foster network, ESRREC has under its care 22 rabbits, of which 16 are currently adoptable (spayed/neutered).
