Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center, Inc. (ESRREC), a local organization dedicated to finding new homes for abandoned pet rabbits, will welcome the July 4th parade spectators to its shelter on Main Street in Rock Hall between the hours of 9am-2pm.
ESRREC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is the only rabbit rescue on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Since the shelter started operations in April 2015, ESRREC has taken in 36 abandoned pet rabbits (including 2 newborns), out of which 20 have been adopted. The rabbits are transferred from the region’s humane societies, picked up as strays, or surrendered directly by the owners.
Rabbits adopted from ESRREC are spayed/neutered, litter box trained, and adjusted to a healthy diet. Open House visitors can see 12 rabbits at the shelter, and an additional 4 rabbits are in foster care.
The Open House will include refreshments as well as children’s activities. ESRREC will also accept items from its wish list.
