This February, Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center, Inc. (ESRREC) hopes you will fall in love with a rescue rabbit. To help potential adopters learn more about pet rabbits, ESRREC will hold a “Bunny Care Basics” seminar at the PetSmart in Easton on Saturday February 17 at 1pm.
The seminar, which is co-sponsored by the local shelter Talbot Humane, provides an overview of fundamental needs such as food, litter box training, and recommended toys and treats. One of the key features is a demonstration of how to safely pick up a rabbit.
ESRREC is a Rock Hall-based charity dedicated to finding homes for abandoned pet rabbits. Since its shelter on Main Street in Rock Hall started operations in April 2015, ESRREC (which has 501(c)(3) nonprofit status) has taken in 97 abandoned pet rabbits, out of which 66 have been adopted. ESRREC has also arranged for 82 spay/neuter operations before adoption. Approximately 40 percent of the rabbits were transferred from the region’s animal shelters, while others were strays or surrendered directly by the owners.
ESRREC will also be selling its 2018 calendar, featuring professional photos of the shelter rabbits.
