Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center, Inc. (ESRREC), a local organization dedicated to finding new homes for abandoned pet rabbits, will hold a free educational seminar at Kingstown Farm, Home and Garden in Chestertown on February 20 at 3pm.

The “Bunny Care Basics” seminar coincides with Adopt-A-Rescued-Rabbit Month (February). It is designed to encourage people who want to adopt a house rabbit to become better informed on the basic needs including food, safe handling, and litter box training. Current house rabbit owners who attend might also pick up a few tips or learn about volunteer opportunities.

ESRREC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Rock Hall, is the only rabbit rescue on the eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Since the shelter started operations in April, ESRREC has taken in 31 abandoned pet rabbits (including 2 newborns), out of which 10 have been adopted. The rabbits are transferred from the region’s humane societies, picked up as strays, or surrendered directly by the owners.

Including both its Main Street shelter and foster network, ESRREC has under its care 21 rabbits, of which 13 are currently adoptable (spayed/neutered).

More information about ESRREC can be found at www.esrrec.org.
