Clear the Shelters Campaign
Now Underway
For the sixth straight year, Rock Hall-based nonprofit Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center (ESRREC) will join “Clear the Shelters,” a nationwide pet adoption drive August 1-31 to help find loving homes for animals in need. During Clear the Shelters Month, ESRREC will offer reduced adoption fees for rabbits.
As part of the nationwide initiative, NBC and Telemundo stations partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to promote pet adoption and raise funds that support animal welfare. Since its 2015 inception, Clear The Shelters has helped nearly 1.2 million pets find new homes and has raised more than $5 million for participating shelters and rescues.
In the previous five years, the campaign brought a total of 89 adoptions for ESRREC, which has had over 500 adoptions over its ten year history. On Saturday August 2, ESRREC will host a “Clear the Shelters Kick-off” at its Outreach Building in Rock Hall (pictured above, Unit #111 in Rock Hall Village). Additional opportunities to meet foster rabbits will be held every Saturday in August.
Rabbits adopted during the month of August will get a $25 discount on adoption fees: single rabbits $50 and bonded pairs $75. All rabbits are spayed/neutered, litter box trained, and socialized. ESRREC also vaccinates for the rabbit disease RHDV-2.
In order to reach a wider range of adopters, ESRREC will hold adoption meet-and-greets every Saturday in August including August 16 at the PetSmart in Middletown, DE; and August 23 at the PetSmart in Easton MD. Private adoption appointments can also be arranged by emailing adopt@esrrec.org.
Clear The Shelters fundraising will once again be led by Greater Good Charities, a global nonprofit and longtime campaign partner. Donations to the general fund can be made now through Sept. 15, and donations to individual shelters can be made from Aug. 1 to 31 at ClearTheSheltersFund.org
